The Guild of the Christ Child was founded in 1955 by the Department of Christian Education of the Diocese of New York. The fundamental aim of the members is to foster Christian development in the life of the parents, and children from birth to age 4 years when they enter pre-school, and on to the next step of further development in the Christian life.

Here at St. George’s the Guild concentrates and directs the efforts to the nurturing of the children.  Members are present for the rite of Baptism and play an important role in reinforcing attendance of Sunday school to further the child’s Christian life. 

Mothering Sunday is celebrated on the 4^th Sunday in the Lenten season.  This is a special Sunday where the Church family and the newly baptized worship at the 10:15 a.m. service followed by a brunch for all.  Religious materials are distributed to the children.

Our two main fundraising events are the Mid-Lenten Tea and the Luncheon and Fashion Show. Both of these events help with the financial support of other programs we are able to fulfill each year; such as:

• Providing a gift to each baptized child.
• Contributions to our high school graduating students.
• A check to the Sunday school to offset the cost of furniture, toys, books, and instruction materials.
• Christmas gift vouchers to our children from the age of a toddler to high school.

Our outreach efforts continue with donations to Adopt-a-Family at Christmas time, the Episcopal Charities Appeal, and the Schneider Children’s Hospital (North Shore/LIJ Health System).

We have established a Library / Reading room which benefits all our children as well as the adults.  Books are donated and some are newly purchased by members.  We continue to look for ideas to provide knowledge and motivate our young people to foster a good life, and therefore welcome any invaluable suggestions from our congregation.

An invitation is extended to anyone who shares with us this important ministry in building a foundation of early Christian life, and would like to assist in our efforts to continue our work for the children.  Please join us at our Meetings on the 2^nd Sunday of each month (September – June) after the 10:15 a.m. service.
